As GIS professionals, one of our key responsibilities is creating accurate datasets of local government assets, and sometimes this requires going into the field to collect data. In recent years, both the hardware and software used for field data collection have become more accurate, efficient, and user-friendly, while also becoming more affordable. In this session, Phillip Jones (NEGRC GIS Manager) will share how his office partnered with the FindIt Historic Resource Survey Partnership at UGA and the Carl Vinson Institute of Government’s Office of Information Technology Outreach Services (ITOS) to use ArcGIS Field Maps to complete a historic inventory survey for the City of Monticello. Faith Bryan (GMRC Information Services Director) will then walk participants through how her office uses field collection technology to build cemetery and infrastructure datasets for local governments in her region.
